Live in a single/semi-detached home or row/townhome.
Own the home where the solar and battery storage systems will be installed. Where an owner has tenants, the owner must apply. You must be the person responsible for paying for the purchase and installation of the solar and battery storage systems.
Be connected to the Ontario electricity grid.‡
Solar panels must be installed on a rooftop. Portable or temporary structures (including recreational vehicles and trailers) are not eligible.
Solar panels must be sized for load displacement only. Net metering is not permitted.
Battery energy storage systems must be paired with a new rooftop solar panel system.
All equipment must be new, owned by the program participant and purchased in Canada.
All equipment must be compliant with applicable ANSI/CAN/UL/CSA/IEEE/CEC standards.

Canada Greener Home Loan

$40,000 Interest Free Loan NO LONGER ACCEPTING LOAN APPLICATION
The Canada Greener Homes Loan offers interest-free financing to help Canadians make their homes more energy efficient and comfortable.
The loan can help you finance eligible retrofitsthat are recommended by an energy advisor and that have not yet been started.
IMPORTANT: You should not start any retrofit work before your loan application has been submitted. Any retrofits started before submitting your loan application are ineligible.
Given the high demand for the program and the number of households that have participated, we have successfully filled all available spots earlier than expected with regard to the joint funding between Enbridge Gas and the Canada Greener Homes Grant. Effective end of day Monday, Feb. 5, 2024, we will not accept any new applicants or complete any new pre-retrofit energy assessments. Any pre-retrofit energy assessments completed after Monday, Feb. 5, 2024 will not be accepted into the program. Please note that the Canada Greener Homes Loan remains open and requires a pre-retrofit evaluation in order to apply.
What is the Greener Homes Grant? (No Longer available)
The Canada Greener Homes Grant is a federal government program aimed at raising the energy efficiency and resiliency of residential buildings. The program will provide up to 700,000 grants to support retrofitting existing homes to greener technology.
The program is designed to reimburse up to $5,000 for home retrofits including renewable energy.
The grant is conditional on performing an EnerGuide energy audit, and up to $600 of the assessment cost is also covered.
Eligibility criteria for a grant:
All equipment must be purchased in Canada.
Online purchases are only eligible if they are ordered from a distributor located in Canada.
The system must be comprised of one or more PV panels and inverter(s) (if required) certified to CSA Standards.
The total system peak power capacity must be equal to or greater than 1.0 kW DC.
Batteries connected to Solar PV systems to provide standby power for home = $1,000
Install solar panels (PV system) with a capacity of at least 1.0 kW DC = $1,000 per kW.
